Raising awareness locally

In the early 1980s, the Bangor branch of Literacy Volunteers of America was still a small group of volunteers with minimal funding and low student numbers. Leaders saw the need for a concentrated effort to improve public awareness of low literacy. Events and publicity could raise money while also reaching potential students and volunteers.
