Tutor Forms & Resources

Tutor Forms

Resources

1. Online Resource Banks: A repository of digital materials is found in this Google Drive folder. Tutors are encouraged to submit favorite resources for inclusion.

2. ProLiteracy Education Network a comprehensive collection of online courses and resources for adult literacy and ESL instructors, program staff, trainers, and adult learners. Create a free account to explore the resources.

3. Curriculum Resources at the Literacy Volunteers’ office in Bangor: Workbooks, textbooks, study guides, and more can be borrowed by tutors and/or students. You may use our photocopier for planning, preparation, and lessons. Over 1,000 materials available!

4. Literacy Volunteers’ Resource Room at the Bangor Public Library is located on the 3rd floor; the key can be requested at the Children’s Department circulation desk. Books are organized by fiction or nonfiction as well as grade level. Additionally, low reading level books written for adults (high interest), reference materials, word games, and more are available for use to borrow.

5. Zoom Conferencing Links to meet with your student virtually. Zoom, a video conferencing service, allows tutors to meet with their students for lessons via their computers, tablets, or smart phones. The Zoom app needs to be downloaded for both parties. While Zoom does have a free option, it limits meetings to 40 minutes. Tutors who would like to use the LVB Zoom license for longer meetings can request a date and time by calling or emailing Kandi Robinson and a link for the meeting will be provided.

Tutor Training & Support

1. Tutor Mentor Assignments: Upon receiving a student assignment, new tutors are matched with an experienced mentor tutor who can provide support and ideas. Mentors are members of the Tutor Training & Support Committee. For more info about a Tutor Mentor, contact Heather McCarthy.

2. Knowledgeable educators and peer tutors conduct Tutor Seminars on a variety of topics multiple times each year. Suggest a topic or lead your own!

3. Tutor Tips arrive via email, often as part of monthly tutor newsletter, Literacy Matters, showcasing a resource, strategy, or idea that is helpful to tutors. Tutors are encouraged to share by submitting tips of their own.

For more immediate support, contact the Program Manager, 207-947-8451 or info@LVBangor.org. Most notification of training, recognition, and networking opportunities takes place via email.
